Problems with Road Surfaces in Middleton

March 2009 - Corby Borough Council announce village lighting budget cuts are cancelled.

Middleton Parish council is resisting Corby Borough proposed cut in village lighting budget.

In early 2007 Middleton fought hard for a budgeted sum of £50K over a period of 5 years for improvement to lighting in all seven Corby borough parishes. Whilst some old lamps have been replaced over the past year, there are still areas of the village which are dark and potentially unsafe. As part of its cost saving plans for 2009/10 Corby Borough Council proposes to remove this budget entirely. At a Rural Area Forum* Meeting on 22nd January 2009, the issue was raised by Cllr. Dryden Phillipson, and forum members voted unanimously to oppose the budget cut proposal on the grounds that it could not be justified because of the safety and security implications for village residents. Further information will be published here.
