Village Hall Project Background Two village surveys including the Parish Plan in 2004-2009 have indicated a strong need for a suitably equipped hall of adequate size for a variety of activities. Although the present school annex after refurbishment is useful, it cannot cater for many of the activities that residents are interested in (according to the survey feedback). The proposed hall will serve Middleton and Cottingham, and probably some surrounding villages as well. Cottingham and Middleton Village Hall Trust (Northants) This is a charitable trust set up to manage the project of acquiring a new village hall for the community. Funding So far, approximately £100,000 has been raised towards the hall, including Section 106 monies from Glover Court developers Fairclough Homes (their successors are Miller Homes) and funding from Corby Borough Council, Middleton Parish Council and Corus. The Site Click here for an aerial view of the proposed site. Progress as at October 2009 Ownership of the land designated for public open spaces and village hall was transferred from Miller Homes to Corby Borough Council in September 2008. The transfer was conditional upon Miller Homes eradicating Japanese Knotweed from the site. Andrew Boddy, Solicitor for the village hall trust is currently working with the legal and planning departments of Corby Borough council to resolve necessary variations to the section 106 agreement covering the site, to enable suitable parking facilities. Once completed the designs will be submitted for planning approval. The Hall design Although a design had been decided upon in 2004, demands
for greater environmentally friendly building techniques and more efficient
energy saving has brought about a re-think. More emphasis will also be made on
providing as many activities as possible, including Badminton, Short Tennis and
Dodgeball. This will require a hall of larger dimensions, needing careful design
and sensitivity to the village surroundings. GSS Architecture of Kettering have been appointed for the project. Please download the latest design drawings below: Site Layout Please check the Cottingham and Middleton Newsletter for the latest developments
